The The will measure the effect of dark energy on the expansion of the universe. It will obtain optical spectra for tens of millions of galaxies and quasars, constructing a 3D map spanning the nearby universe to 11 billion light years. The DESI Survey is being conducted on the Mayall 4-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory. DESI is supported by the Department of Energy Office of Science to perform this Stage IV dark energy measurement using baryon acoustic oscillations and other techniques that rely on spectroscopic measurements. First Cosmology Results from DESI DESI has created the largest 3D map of our universe. The Universe’s expansion history is now known to better than 1% precision, yielding the best picture yet of how the universe has evolved over the past 11 billion years. Read more in our announcement and the BerkeleyLab Press Release. Our results were presented at the APS and Moriond meetings as well as on Youtube . DESI Science en Español , en Français , 한국어로 , 简体中文 , ქართული , em Português , auf Deutsch , en Català , in Italiano . 5000 Eyes: Mapping the Universe with DESI is out now! DESI’s very own planetarium show is available for free to all planetariums. See the trailer and find more information here . Translations in French, Spanish, Mandarin, and German are now available. New Uncertainty Invites Optimism About the Fate of the Universe Joan Najita (NOIRLab) As described in a recent press release, DESI has found subtle hints that dark energy, once assumed to be constant in time, may instead be evolving. Spectra that probe the past 11 billion years of cosmic history suggest that dark energy appears to be weakening, becoming less pushy” over time. That appears […] DESI 2024 Supporting Papers: April 11 Guide In this blogpost we introduce another batch of supporting papers released yesterday on April 11, just one week after releasing our cosmological results using BAO from galaxies and quasars and the Lyman-alpha forest. Yesterday’s papers do not exhibit new results, but represent major stepping stones towards the cosmology results from the RSD (aka Full Shape) […] DESI 2024 Results: April 4 Guide On April 4, DESI released a set of papers marking our first release of year one (Y1) results. This page contains summaries of our main results and a guide to the publications. The papers will be available on arXiv at 5pm PST on April 4, and until then are available here.
